SDC 160 Music as Inspiration

I have really enjoyed this weeks Stampotique Designers Blog challenge which has been set by Kathi Rerek.

I love music and enjoy most genres ranging from liturgical music to rap, from classical to head-bangin' rock! Music fills my soul and moves me emotionally and physically.

The song that most moves me at the moment is by Massive Attack and it is called Angel. The First line lyrics are ‘You Are My Angel’ which is why they are on my grey board.

This song came out in 2009 and i fell in love with the track and haven’t fallen out of love with it yet. I do hope you enjoy listening to it.

Stamped Angel Boy onto white card stock with Archival ink then dusted with Black Pan Pastel. Used a Jokar battery operated eraser to remove all the colour from his wings. Initially i coloured them with Copper and yellow Pan Pastels but then decided to use DecoArt Media Crackle Paste and this is what happened.

Love the small crackle, looks even better when a little Treasure Gold is added.

Covered the Grey Board with Snowflake Fresco Paint, when dry sprayed Dylusions Ink colours, Lemon Zest, Dirty Martini and Calypso Teal over the top. 

For some texture i chose to use the Mini bliss Stencil from TCW,which has now been discontinued. Spread a thin layer of the Grunge paste and let it dry.

Stamped Journey Collage on the surface to add a little more interest to the background. Knew it wasn’t going to stamp perfectly but i like that.

At this stage i forgot to take any more pictures until it was all assembled.

Used a washer to make Angel boy’s halo, coloured it with Zesty zing and Paprika Fresco Paints.

Used a Tam’s Whimsy Stencil to add the hearts and the stars, coloured them in using Posca Pens.

Angel boy stands on a scallop wood border from Prima which has been coloured using Inky Pool Fresco Paint, over stamped with Journey Collage stamp and heat embossed using white WOW Powder. The ribbon is from stash.

Added treasure Gold in Renaissance and Onyxite to the mini bliss areas, wanted to create a glow emanating from Angel Boy.

To finish off the board i used a scrap piece off a TH On the Edge die cut and attached it to the top.

Lyrics are hand written onto cream card stock, added Pan Pastel colours, sealed then roughed up the edges, added a hand doodled border. Adhered the lyrics to the board and then i was done.

Q&L Challenge 16-Family and or Thing.

Over at the Craft Barn the latest Quote and Lyrics challenge asks us to use either or both of these words, Family or Thing.

Found a song by Rhonda Vincent, the lyrics are from a song called Good Thing Going this a link to You Tube so you can see her performing the song.

It's hard to see how lucky

Between bills, jobs, and family

We've been through things both good and bad

Once lost everything we had

But our love always seems to see us through

Created another iCard in CAP2.

Used Blessed digi Kit to create the words in the background and the faith love trust banner. Butterfly Garden digi kit for the flowers. Banners and Dividers digi kit for the flourish around the lyrics. The background is from the Swirling Memories digi kit.

Just to let you know, i have printed and mounted all the digital challenges and added them to my hand crafted ones at last!

UK Art Swap - Last One

Have completed my last swap for the Yahoo Group i belong to.

Have enjoyed taking part and have had some beautiful items in the swaps. I do hope the lady who receives this postcard will have had as much fun as i have taking part in this one.

Theme is a postcard with sewing on it.

Here are the postcards i made.

Both have been created using the new Darcy Wilkinson EDY09 plate.

The blue background is Dylusions Ink sprays, used Archival Ink in Watering Can on both postcards.

Used Staedtler colouring pencils to colour all the flowers and add the highlights and shadows.

Here are the cards after the sewing has been added.

Used orange, green and turquoise threads to add depth and texture. On the blue coloured card i did four different techniques to add the sewing on to the flowers.

On the tall card i used free motion embroidery only.

Added acrylic felt backs which were sewn on the back of the cards using running stitch.

Added the word hope using the Frumptious Alphabet set from Roald Dahl.

Added the sentiment from EDY09 and scuffed up the edges and inked with cornflower Blue Archival Ink.

Kept both postcards flat as i am posting one of them.

SDC 159 Bows

Over at Stampotique this week the theme is bows. Here is what Jackie has to say about her choice of challenge:

Jackie is our hostess this week and here is her challenge for us:

Ribbons have been around since the Middle Ages. Merchants travelled the world, buying and selling ribbon, many of which had gold and silver in the silk. ribbons were a sign of nobility and worn only by the rich. By the seventh century ribbon was part of the fashion industry and was part of clothing.

Today ribbon has numerous uses, and it is a favourite crafting accessory, I have lots of it!

You can make fabulous bows with it to adorn your cards, scrapbook page,  tags, journals etc..

So I would like to see you adding a bow to your project, if you don't have ribbons, bows can be made out of many mediums such as paper, clay, string to name but a few!

I looking forward to seeing your creations with a bow!

I don’t usually add bows to my projects but this week i have made three cards with bows on them. 

I know i am only allowed one card as an entry and this will be the one.

Black Card stock for base A5 card.

Gold hammer card with a border cut out from a very old border punch.

Cogs embossing folder.

Clock and wing stamps from Paper Artsy.

Dress forms are from Creative Expressions, ribbon is from stash, flower made from hand cut shapes.

Head on dress form is Moon Girl from Stampotique.

Sentiment Paper Artsy.

Ruler is from an Urban Stamp set from Papermania.

Made this for a friends birthday which is coming up very soon.

 

The other two cards i made resulting from this challenge are:

Tatty Button has an admirer he loves the red ribbon in her hair and has been wanting to talk with her but can’t summon up the courage.  She is looking out for her latest crafting purchases from the postman while he watches from afar…

Bought myself a couple of the latest Zendoodle stamps from Lindsay Mason botanics (which is the one above), Toadstools and Fillers, which are amazing and can be used as wonderful background patterns too.

Used the new Darcy Wilkinson stamp plate EDY09 to create a background, this has not worked at all, the perspective is all wrong, will know next time lol. However i do love Darcy’s new stamps, i doodled something very similar in my learning to draw journal at the beginning of 2013 and here is the stamp just as i envisaged, it was a sign i had to have this set.

Used Portfolio Pastels to colour the seed heads and the botanics stamps, used Rainbow Glazes to add a little shine and of course a little bow. 

Do you see a Wizard’s hat, i do and it reminds me of Terry Pratchett stories from the magical kingdom.

The ink splats were optional but seeing as the card wasn’t working i thought what the heck and splodged away.

SDC 158 Black, White and a pop of colour

Over at the Stampotique Designers Blog this weeks challenge has been set by the lovely Kay Wallace, here is what Kay has to say:

Kay here and it is my turn to host the Stampotique Designers' Challenge this week!  What might seem like a simple challenge to most, for some, whose work is generally full of colour, it really will be a challenge.  But, for all of us, it's good to try something different. I have been on a black'n'white artistic kick lately because I love the crisp freshness it can bring to a card, journal page or ATC. Whatever you decide to do, keep it black and white with just a pop of colour!

Here is my entry for this weeks challenge.

 

Used black card stock, Dylusions stamp plate Fancy Florals DYR40941 and Darcy Wilkinson stamp plate EDY07.

Swiped the base card with an anti static bag before stamping with the larger leaf and the smaller flower stamps from the Dylusions stamp plate. Used a Versamark ink pad then embossing with WOW white embossing powder.

Stamped the smallest flower again onto a gold fancy designed paper and cut out the smaller inner flower to get the smallest sized floral on the plate. Coloured the inner with turquoise Sakura Glaze pen and the back of the flower with Cornflower Blue Archival ink.

Attached the flower onto the base, added a bead that looks like a washer for the centre.

Stamped out the word Bloom from the Darcy Wilkinson set, cut and added a black border with a pen, then inked the edge with Archival black ink. Adhered the word to the card.

Kept the card CAS, it is one of my favourite crafting techniques.
