It’s week three already over at Claudine Criner’s Altered Playing Card Challenge. Hope to see you join in with the Challenge, it is fun and there are some wonderful APC’s being created, if you pop over you will see some wonderful ArT.
The card on the left has a Gessoed back with some decoration and the one on the right has been sanded. After two weeks playing i am going to go over the sanded cards with Gesso, this surface allows for more wet mediums to be added and the colours are truer.
The left one is Pan Pastels, the right one is Distress Inks.
Added stencilling with both black and white ink pads on the left, on the right added book pages and Pan Pastels.
Tried a double embossing technique using just border folders on both of the cards.
On the left i used a Tim Holtz spider and clouds from a freebie border embossing folder.
Added die cut Chloe flower from Memory Box and some vellum words which read live, learn, discover. Used some Treasure Gold on the spider and some pen work around the embossed areas.
On the right i used two free border embossing folders, one is a grass and flower border the other is a bird on a branch. Added some Rainbow Glaze over the grasses which hasn’t turned out well and added some handwriting which again isn’t too good but i am trying to like it lol!
Thanks for dropping by, hope you have time to leave a comment.

I love the way that you use all your prior experience to put together such little treasures that are fabulous works of art. All the layers and embossing etc makes for really special pieces to treasure. Clever lady! Xx
ReplyDeleteWow! Gorgeous textures and lovely colour scheme. Xx
ReplyDeletethese are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI just love all the dimension and texture in both of these cards. Thanks for sharing how you made them, and I especially was interested in the comment about the sanding/gesso. I'm using gesso on mine, but the problem I am having is that if I use acrylic paint or distress stain--which are all I have right now--it does scrap off easily. Any suggestions? Thicker coat of gesso maybe?
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous details you have achieved on such a small area. Lovely :D
ReplyDeleteThese look fabulous it amazes me how you are able to use so many elements on your creations that work so beautifully together well done xxx
ReplyDeleteGreat texture and layers. I was wondering about using embossing folders. I have gesso'd all mine. Like Craftymoose I am a little worried about it being scratched off. I think the ones you sanded first will take the gesso really well. I do like how the brushstrokes show through the colour mediums. I think I might try some canvas coat or matte medium to seal my cards. I don't expect to be playing with them but am pleased with my first two and they are definate keepers. Hugz. I'm following. Want to keep an eye on what us non-FB's are doing with out cards.
ReplyDeleteI'm a week late, but wanted to share the non-FB love. So glad you made these cards your own. When I tried to imitate Claudine's, the attempt was a failure.
ReplyDeleteBTW, where oh where do you get FREEBIE embossing folders? The only ones I've ever seen cost about $11.00 (USD).
Those backgrounds look amazing, I love the spider one!
ReplyDeleteI'm really behind with my commenting, off to see what else I've missed!
