Paper Artsy Challenge, Altered Spool and Beyond

Have been a busy crafter for the last week or so, trying to keep my mind off health issues which i just seem to be adding to, so i hope you enjoy the projects i have made.

Over at the Paper Artsy Blog there are new Guest Designers for 2014, this week it has been good to see the work of Clare Lloyd. Her work is lovely, colourful and achievable.  The three projects i have done this week are, The Altered Spool, The Canvas and The CAS Card.

No.1 Altered Wooden Spool

I wanted to make a thank you present for a lady who, while on holiday in Korea, thought of me and brought back a wonderful tigers eye bracelet. She gave it to my OH when she saw him last week with a message saying that she got it in Korea where tigers eye is known as a healing stone and i should wear it often.  Can’t tell you how shocked i was to receive something so thoughtful from a lady i hadn’t seen in a few months, this is my way of saying thank you.

I was inspired by Clare’s wooden spool project and wanted to make some flowers instead of the image Clare created.

Used Paper Artsy Hot Pick Stamp set HP Extra 02 for the flower heads, Wooden Spools from local craft store, Fresco Paints, wire, Crafter Companion Gold Spray, Hot Glue gun,Treasure Gold, MDF Flower shape from stash, beads from stash, Portfolio Pastels, Perfect Pearls, Versamark Ink, Archival Ink.

Covered spool in Snowflake Fresco.

P1050650

Mixed Beach Hut and Old Gold to give second coat.

P1050651

Added Autumn Fire. I went over the spool again and added a touch of Inky Pool. Wanted the spool to look like it had grass at one end and sky the other. You can see this in a later image.

P1050667

Bottom of the MDF Flower, used Snowflake as base, added Nougat then French Roast to get the look of earth. Used a Stampotique image for the words which were stamped in Versamark Ink and added Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls to dust over the top.

P1050668

Top of the flower and where spool will be adhered.

P1050669

The completed spool, added washi tape to the top and bottom of the reel and a stamped banner from a new stamp set which were free with Stamp Magazine. Loving the spotty banner!

P1050670

Die cut the shapes using Paper Artsy dies, the stamped over them with Stamp Set Extra 02. Coloured in with Portfolio Pastels, these pencils are soft and easy to blend with your fingers. Heat set before stamping.

P1050677

The front of the Altered Wooden Flower Spool.

P1050685

Back of the Altered Wooden Flower Spool.

P1050684

Macro shot of the Dragonfly, i had to add some florist wire to the tail area as it didn’t fair well when i added the thicker wire in between the two shapes.

P1050683

Macro shot of the butterfly.

No.2 Altered Canvas

Might have cheated a little with this one as i used a mini canvas and did only one layer. This is Clare’s canvas.

Used Paper Artsy Fresco Paints, Jo Firth Young Stamps, Tim Holtz stamps, Paper Artsy Hot Pick Stamps, Inktense Pencils, Fresco Satin Glaze.

P1050652

Covered the canvas in Bora Bora, added Hey Pesto to the lower half, Mermaid and snowflake to create the sky. Used a baby wipe to apply the colours as i wanted to blend them in.

P1050666

Stamped my images over the top, created a box around the text. Painted the stamps with Inktense Pencils and used 3 coats of Satin Glaze to seal the canvas.

No.3 CAS Card

Have a male birthday coming up in a few days, the card Clare made for her final challenge this month was beautiful, decided to use the same stamps and colours.
