Less Is More Challenge Number 9

Over at the Less Is More site this weeks challenge is A Hint of RED. I definitely don’t use much red in any part of my life so this is a tad of an uncomfortable challenge for me…

I really have tried but i can already see that my card is too busy and you can’t see the top of the card which is shaped.

Tried to leave the bottom part  clear but not sure if this is enough white space…

My friends wife is expecting their third child very soon and they know it’s going to be a boy so have used this as my inspiration.  As you can see there are a few mistakes. Used Promarkers to colour the face and didn’t use a Momento ink pad to stamp the image so the markers have smudged the eyes and tops of fingers.  Used the Swiss Dots embossing folder  on the border strip and then gently ran over the top with a black ink pad but it smudged, again…

Going to enter the card and hope that it satisfies the criteria. Maybe i’ll have another go tomorrow and see how i get on then.

Thanks for all of your constructive comments, really appreciate them so keep ‘em coming! Also thanks to the very kind people who are now followers, welcome!

Thanks for dropping by:-)

  1. Cute card, I think you could get away with not have the pins background, if I may say
Thank you, great to see you

  2. Well I think you have listed the things that I would have commented on.
The image probably would have had more impact for this challenge if it was simply red and white (still OK for a boy)and singly mounted onto a plain card.. even without the embossing!
The ink thing in something else to bear in mind for next time too!
It's a cute image though and I'm sure we'll see more from you before the end of the week... have a good one!

  3. I like the idea for your card and apart from the tiny smudge the colouring is great. I think I would have just had the dotted strip rather than the pins in the background if you wanted it to be cleaner. Hope that helps ;-)

Lovely image, what's the stamp you've used? The card's a little too busy with different patterns for me, but that won't surprise you :-)

  5. I might have used the buttons and nappy pins as the border but hey, it's all about personal choice and it is a real nice card

  8. What a lovely image! I perhaps might have masked the centre and stamped the pins all round the edges then just popped the image into the white space in the centre. But.... it's a cute card and I'm sure your friend will like it!

  11. I think I would have left the background plain and maybe just used red on the stripe, then your eye is drawn into the centre of the card. Your colouring is much better than I can do!

Hope you don't mind the comments :-)

  15. Cute image! I think your own analysis of the card was pretty good and you probably just need to feel a bit more confident about leaving more white space - an image like that can carry it, no problem! If you want to try someting different with the same stamp, I might try using the same stacked die cuts with no embossing and a plain card base, have the baby at bottom right of the central one (so his bottom is sticking out over the edge of the die cut) and stamp or computer generate a sentiment higher up on the panel. I think this is really cute though!

  16. The image is adorable...but I think I would have just popped it up on a shaped piece...and added a little sentiment. I know what you mean about white space...it really takes a while to get use to it. Sometimes I sit my card on a shelf and just look at it several times for several days....until it "grows" on me! LOL!

  21. I just hate it when the ink smudges! But other than that, I think it's a lovely card...just, as you say, a touch too busy tho. I'm sure your friend will love it!
