The amazing Deborah Wainwright aka Lylac Sparkles has brought a new Monthly Challenge to the web. Here is what Deborah has to say:
It is a Mixed Media challenge that focuses on the 12 signs of the Zodiac. Each month I will bring you new inspiration to help your creativity flow.
Deborah has very kindly asked me to be a Guest Designer this month to help get the challenge started so without further ado here is my project.
Used an online programme which you can add any words and a picture to and it will give you something like the above image. Printed this out, you can see how i used it later in the post.
I do hope you can see who this is, any guesses? It is of course Abraham Lincoln who was born on February 12 1809, an Aquarian and a great American President.
I have read a few articles to research this great American President and have found that he thought outside the box, had oodles of compassion, he was a visionary, literally and extremely intuitive, eccentric, a revolutionary for the greater good.
Aquarians are Air signs, their colours are typically shades of blue particularly turquoise or sky blue but they are often associated with water colours as their symbol is the water bearer.
Took a piece of water colour paper, sprayed it with water and added shavings from Inktense Blocks in blues and greens which i moved around with my fingers. Made the marks with the bottom of a paint brush.
While the paper was still very wet i placed a size 10 Tag over the top and used a brayer to apply pressure which transferred the colour and the pattern onto the card stock.
Added a layer of Snowflake Fresco paint using a brayer over the top of both the tag and the background to soften it slightly.
Really enjoyed this next bit because it helps to use up my peel off stash and means i can enter this into the Paper Artsy Metal Challenge 2.
Coloured the peel offs with Kaiserfusion alcohol pens placed a few on the left side to represent bubbles.
Macro shot of the bubble colours.
Found some fern style peel offs, again coloured them with the alcohol pens and added to the Tag, coloured the little areas in with Sakura Glaze Pens.
This macro shows you how i coloured all the peel off rings with a mix of Rainbow Glazes. When dry i went around all the bubbles with a white then a black pen adding shading and highlighting where needed.
Here is the completed Tag, i cut out the image of Mr Lincoln layered him onto silver mirror card then added some more peel offs to his eyes which just happened to be the correct shape for the Aquarius symbol, oh yes and i coloured them black with alcohol pens.
Also used The Journey stamp from Stampotique to add some beautiful text to the background, i then stamped this onto a black piece of paper and cut out the sentiment we are spiritual beings which i layered onto a piece of coloured card stock and then a piece from an on the edge die from Sizzix.
I really hope you have enjoyed your visit today, i have enjoyed creating this for you and hope it offers some inspiration towards your own project, now if i was you i would head over to Deborah’s Blog to enter and get yourself some wonderful DecoArt goodies!
Thanks for dropping by.

You're so knowledgeable about everything... The software for putting words on images is a great find. Love what your did with your peel off (should try and do something with mine...)
ReplyDeleteI'm SO sorry I am late visiting. I have been very sick lately. Can't seem to shake this bug I've got. You put a LOT into this lovely piece. I was really impressed with Lincoln's head, but also impressed with all the techniques you used to create this page. You are a technique fool. Or maybe you just have a ton of wonderful supplies (grin). Regardless, this zodiac entry is over the top, dear friend.
