Fragile Papers–Paper Artsy

Paper Artsy have a new Challenge over on their blog, please pay a visit as i am sure this will appeal to almost anyone who crafts, it’s called Fragile Papers.

It was this post by Lynne Moncrieff that got me thinking…

Lynne showed that text alone can look amazing but i got carried away and incorporated a few of the techniques that i haven’t tried so far. Brayering using the Fresco paints was so much fun, more than i thought it was going to be and now i love it!

To start with i recycled a piece of card packaging from a well know soda drink.

Covered the piece in DecoArt Tinting Base as i wanted a smooth base not a textured one. One coat gives perfect coverage and you use so little.

Added a few little snippets of book page, a coloured tea bag, a teasel image stamped onto book paper from Woodware and the lower half of Mink from Stampotique who i used in another project.

Over the top added a single layer of kitchen roll mop up, you can just about see the book pages underneath.

Added a layer of Pan Pastel colours Burnt Sienna Tint and Ultramarine Blue Tint to tone it down a little.

Next layer were the Sara Naumann stamp set ESN08 words using Archival Black ink pad.

Brayered over the top of the words using Fresco Snowflake paint,  this caught all the texture of the mop up towel and i like the way it knocks the inked stamps back.

A vellum saying had the edges softened and adhered on top of the inked words.

Finally i added a couple of the free Lavinia stamps, the Fairy and the stars because you can never have enough starlight.

The bow was added and the corners cut off to make a Tag.

Linking my Tag to the Paper Artsy Fragile Papers Challenge.

Thanks for dropping by today looking forward to your lovely comments.

  1. How clever. You have combined lots of your favourite elements with things that are new...resulting in a delight for the eyes. I love all the layers, the colouring and the words make me think about all kinds of things. Clever girl you! love it! xx

  2. I love how you built up the layers to create a beautifully textured project. And.. isn't that saying so apt for us crafters?!! ;-)
    Georgie xx

  3. Lots of fun layers there. I don't know the answer to your question though. Looks like you could stop earlier. Or keep going. Don't really think it matters :)

  4. Fabulous work, Mo! Love the texture!! Xxx

  5. Ooooh you've incorporated sooo many products in this tag with all your lush layers, and the finished project looks great. I've yet to try out the tinting base, but it's on my to do list.

  6. It looks beautiful and sounds like you enjoyed the process! Hope this will spur me on, I love the fragile papers them but can't seem to get "in the zone"...

  7. What a great piece, Mo, it's gorgeous! Do I read write though, that this is the first time you've brayered with your Frescos??? Fabulous layers.

  8. Love all the layers and textures, and the stamping finished the project perfectly!

  10. Best use of a pop can box EVER!!! I'm adding that to my pizza box and cereal box list! ha! Gorgeous Mo, your colours are dreamy and I love all the wonderful layers of stamps! until next time, big hugs :)

  11. What an absolutely fantastic project, Mo! I am definitely going to create a piece of art with these techniques in mind. I absolutely love this layering! Instead of stamps here, there is a definite possibility of layering one's own (and, perhaps, secret) handwriting. Thanks for the great inspiration!

  12. This tag made me smile more than you will ever know. I simply adore the tag you created. I have tried to heat emboss vellum before, and ended up creating a mess. Yours, although not embossed, turned out simply perfect. Lovely entry in the fragile papers challenge, and a great way to use something destined for the recycle bin.

  13. just beautiful , so many fab layers on one little tag xx

  14. Amazing tag!! The built up the many layers is so beautiful and lovely colours. xx
