Darcy’s Calendar Challenge–April 2015

Hi it’s time for Darcy’s April Calendar Challenge, hope you can find time to come and play!

This months techniques are:

1. Keep a part of the original picture and incorporate that into your design

2. Technique -  use drips and splatters

3. Add - a repeating shape or word as many times as possible

4. Blog your calendar page and link up from April 1st 2015.

P1080202

Printed off my page onto 80gsm copier paper and then cut it down to size.

P1080203

The only thing i wanted to keep was Tinglyitchiness from Stampotique.

Masked off Tingly using a masking fluid then painted over the whole area using Fresco Paint Nougat. Then i went over the whole area again using Scattered Straw, Mustard Seed and Chipped Sapphire Distress Inks blending the two yellow colours and using the Chipped Sapphire for the edge.

Really enjoyed this month’s techniques. I tried to follow a You Tube video from a very talented lady called Helen Allen who is on the DT for Rubber Dance Stamps. I was inspired to have a go at her background as she repeat stamps a script stamp over a butterfly.

P1080214

I tried to follow her instructions but my second generation stamping was a tad heavy handed so i didn’t achieve the look she did, this is my first attempt at this and i will try again as i love the effect it gives. Let me know if you have a play and how your project turns out! Used a sentiment from Lindsay Mason’s set Creative thoughts, the butterfly is from Sarah Lugg for Rubber Stampede.

Added the drips and splats using a Sepia coloured Ink from my local stationers. Coloured the butterflies in using a watered down version of Mustard Seed DI.

The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that Tingly is a different colour than in the beginning. Had to go over him as the masking fluid didn’t do a good job and the paint covered him up, ooops!

I am very happy with how my calendar image has turned out. Now to add him to my mop up journal.

P1080237

Added some of the papers i had over from the recent workshop once again but there was something missing…

P1080238

I added some washi tape to ground Tingly and to add a little more colour on the collaged page and a couple of dark splats from the Inkylicious Elements 2 set.

More pondering over a couple of day then i added a

P1080241

Memory Box die called Chloe and a piece of fabric i had over from making a watch strap for my OH, thought this would make a fab tree trunk, then added a piece of the Gelli Plate i had over to ground the trunk.

Recap - I used two stamps repeatedly, added splats and drippage as April’s instructions.

If you want to join in with May’s Challenge Darcy has left these instructions:

Here are the rules for May 2015.

1.. Keep a part of the original picture and incorporate that into your design

2, Technique - Make marks,... scratching or stamping into texture paste/thick gesso/spackle/glue anything that will hold the shape

3. Add – an image that depicts your star sign/horoscope (drawing, painting, magazine image)

4. Blog your calendar page and link up from May 1st 2015

Looking forward to your lovely comments, thanks for dropping by.

  5. I'm always impressed by the number of layers you create on any one page. This one is no different. However, I'm a bit confused as to what sign you are. Needless to say, I'm really in love with what you did, and the techniques you used for this calendar page are sensational.

You always put my calendar pages to shame. Guess that is one reason I didn't join this challenge (grin).

  11. Great calender page Mo! I love what you did for your tree and there is a lovely grunge yet whimsical look to the piece, which recycles so beautifully and looks terrific. I really like the effect of Helen's background technique. I love RD stamps and they have a very talented Design Team, so I must give her YouTube a look. If I try it, I'll let you know how it goes for me! I had never heard of Masking Fluid - sounds like a good idea, if it works? Have a great Easter, xx

  16. Loved hearing how this layered its way into the world over several days - and what a great final page. Just love the original envelope, and Tingly perched there in the corner, and so fabulous when the tree arrived!

In answer to your Viva Decor question, I'm afraid I don't know! They're pretty much brand new in my stash, so haven't encountered problems yet - but forewarned is forearmed, thank you - I'll make sure I use them regularly!!

Thanks so much for your lovely comment on my blog this morning and as to your question re the size of the file folder, mine was US letter size (A4 approx), but I would be very interested to know where to get these folders in any size in the UK, A5 in fact would be brilliant!

  25. Mo, my birthday isn't until EARTH day, the 22nd. That's why I do the 22 days of recycling each April. I felt sure everyone knew when I keep saying bEARTHday, that they knew what day it is. Looks like I'll have to let everyone know I "assumed" too much. So you are actually early in your wishes (grin).

  26. Just had to pop back to say thank you for your lovely messages on my holiday posts and I'm so glad you enjoyed reading them. I really was worried it was too much and then told myself to shut up, it's my blog, I can write as much as I like, lol. Silly huh!?
Thanks for the link to the Range too - have you seen this box frame they do

I saw one for real on my holiday, that my friend had used; the inside is padded so pins can easily be used to afix things (scroll down it's almost at the end)

  27. Hello - back again with DecoArt info! The base layer, crackle glaze and next layer on the garden tray were all the Chalk paint line; then the Hauser Light Green and Forest Green are from the Americana range, and I think there's also some Quin Gold Traditions in the mix. I can guarantee there's none of the Media Line - it was made last year before they were released!
