Reverse Canvas

Hi Everyone, a share today from last weeks workshop with the very lovely Lindsay Mason. We made a reverse canvas using DecoArt Media Paints and other media.

P1080483

We were all give the same kit and with Lindsay’s guidance we glued different embossing folders onto some thick grey board, next job cut our pieces into tile shapes. When we were happy with our tile shapes we painted all of them black.

The head is made of paper clay and the ribbon is curtain lining which we stamped on. I chose a Tim Holtz butterfly stamp with Plum Archival ink to match my canvas colours.

The most tricky job was attaching the tiles and getting them to fit around the frame. I like how mine are all different heights.

P1080502

Close up of the face and wings. The wings are from Tim Holtz dragonfly die.

This is as far as we got in the workshop, finished everything else at home.

The words in the two hearts read Love and Deeply.

P1080504

Decided to keep the back of my canvas black. Lindsay’s had lots of lovely papers on the reverse of hers but i wanted to keep mine simple.

You can see how the triangle topper is attached onto the canvas with a cardboard hinge.

When everything was dry i tried to add ‘grout’ between the already metallic looking tiles but it all went wrong so i had to coat all of the tiles black again and added DecoArt Metallic Lustres in Green Gold, Majestic Purple, Blue and Copper Kettle.

P1080501

The finished reverse canvas.

Really enjoy making this, learnt how to make some fab tiles which i can use on other projects and how versatile baking foil is (this made the top of the triangle).

Thank you for taking the time to drop by, i hope you have enjoyed your visit today.

I am entering this into the Paper Artsy challenge of WORDS.

  15. This is absolutely gorgeous, Mo. I take it baking foil is what we in America call aluminum foil. Not sure how you got all the shape in it, but it is stunning, as is the rest of the piece..

  22. This is marvellous, I wish we had classes like this here. Classes with starter kits are the best. I enlarged your picture, and gosh! what a lot of detail appeared. Your tiles are marvellous as is the triangular "roof". What a fabulous and unusual work of art you've created.
